Texas Largest Drugstore
The Walgreens known as Texas Largest Drugstore was a true landmark in 1960's Midland and beyond . The big green box of a store was the Wal-Mart of it's day selling not only health items but clothing, toys, food, guns and almost anything else a person could desire. As far as I remember, TLD contained the only escalator in Midland. Located at the corner of Andrews Hwy and Illinois, TLD anchored the Village Shopping Center and was adjacent to the space age looking Commercial Bank building and Grammar-Murphey Dept. Store. TLD was torn down several years ago along with the bank to make way for the new Walgreens.
