General Clothing Store
Today when I hear the name"Red Wing Work Boots", I immediately think of Stanley Levitz and his General Clothing Store located on Florida St. south of downtown. Everyone who lived in Midland in the early 1960's visited the General Clothing Store at least once. Stanley stocked no nonesense work clothing and shoes, and did it well, advertising on KCRS radio in his distinctive sounding New York Jewish accent. I cannot recall when General Clothing finally closed but it had a long career. The building is now vacant. Stanley's daughter Carol went on to become a Washington D.C. city councilwoman.
