Named in honor of Midland civic leader C.W. Craig who served as Midland I.S.D. Board Trustee 1970-1976, President of the Midland I.S.D. School Board, 1973-1974, Member of the Texas State School Board and Midland County commissioner, 1982-1986.
Winning students will be named based on their achievement in the West Texas Annual Regional Science fair. All entrants will be Sophmore or Junior students from Midland High Schools who have registered with their schools science coordinator and applied for the award.
Winners are judged and named by a panel of three retired educators and professionals with science based backgrounds. The judges are independent of the Midland I.S.D. and the Science Fair organization. The award is presented to the winning students at the annual Midland and Lee High School Math and Science Booster club banquet.
Award recipients will receive an expense paid trip Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Florida. The students will participate in educational activites including being paired with N.A.S.A. scientists for a day of mentoring and observing the scientist at work on the launch. Winners will tour the launch site and visit the SpacePort with it's museums and historic space flight vehicles. The trip will culminate with a viewing of a Space Shuttle launch from the V.I.P. seating area.
